Bhajan Lal Sharma has been elected as the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Legislature Party meeting takes the decision. Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa as Deputy CM.

By appointing first-time MLA Bhajanlal Sharma from Jaipur’s Sanganer assembly seat as the chief minister, the BJP has played the Brahmin card ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa have been made Deputy Chief Ministers. Vasudev Devnani has been given the responsibility of the Assembly Speaker.

The name of 56-year-old Bhajanlal Sharma, a resident of Bharatpur, was proposed by former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.  The decision was taken unanimously by the newly-elected MLAs in the presence of central observer Rajnath Singh, co-observers Vinod Tawde and Saroj Pandey.  After being elected the leader of the legislative party, Bhajan Lal thanked PM Modi, BJP President JP Nadda,  Home Minister Amit Shah along with senior leaders and the public. After this, he went to the Governor and staked a claim to form the government.

Earlier, the BJP made tribal leader Vishnudev Sai chief minister in Chhattisgarh and Mohan Yadav in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP, which formed the government in three states just before the Lok Sabha elections, has tried to target tribals, OBCs and Sarvans.

Diya Kumari has been made Deputy CM by the BJP. Diya Kumari has recently resigned from the Rajsamand Lok Sabha seat in Rajasthan. She has won the assembly election from Vidyadhar Nagar. Diya Kumari, daughter of former Maharaja Bhawani Singh of Jaipur, entered politics about a decade ago and was also considered a contender for the post of Chief Minister this time.

Apart from Diya Kumari, the BJP has also appointed Prem Chand Bairwa as Deputy Chief Minister.  54-year-old Bairwa has won from Dudu assembly seat. Bairwa, who hails from the Dalit community, holds a PhD degree. He had to face defeat in  2018, but due to continuing to work for the organization, he was given a chance again and this time with the victory, he also got the post of Deputy CM.

In Rajasthan, the three-decade-old custom continued this time. The public allowed the BJP to remove the 5-year-old government of the Congress.  In the voting held on November 25, the BJP got an absolute majority.  When the results came out on December 3, the BJP won  115 seats. The Congress had to be content with  69 seats.

Like Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, in Rajasthan too, the BJP had entered the election under collective leadership this time. The BJP had not announced the name of any contender for the post of Chief Minister. There was speculation for a long time about the BJP’s CM face.  About half a dozen names, including Vasundhara Raje, Baba Balaknath, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, were in the discussion.
