There is not much time left in the Delhi Lok Sabha elections 2024. All parties are busy preparing for elections in their own way. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has called a meeting of the Political Affairs Committee. This meeting is considered very important. It is being told that in this meeting, the names of candidates for the Lok Sabha seats of Delhi can be decided.

Some media reports are also speculating that after the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee, the Aam Aadmi Party may announce candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi as well as Haryana and Gujarat. It is being said that this meeting can be held at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence and Kejriwal can put his stamp on the names of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.

There are a total of seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress have an alliance in these seats. Together, the two parties have decided that the Aam Aadmi Party will contest four seats in East Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi and New Delhi Lok Sabha seats. At the same time, the Congress party will contest important Lok Sabha seats like Chandni Chowk, North West, and Chandni Chowk. At present, all seven seats in Delhi are in the possession of BJP.

Big setback for AAP-Congress alliance, all these leaders join BJP

Before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the BJP has given a big blow to the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress. Many leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress have joined BJP. All these leaders joined BJP in Delhi in the presence of Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva and Leader of Opposition Ramvir Singh Bidhuri. Bindya Malhotra is among the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party who joined the BJP. Vindhya Malhotra contested the MCD elections from Ramesh Nagar in the year 2017.

She has also been the district secretary of the Aam Aadmi Party. Alok Seth, who once worked with AAP leader Raghav Chadha, has also joined the BJP. Mohan Kumar Sharma, ward president from Mohan Town, also joined the BJP. Abhishek Sethi, who was AAP’s general secretary from Rajinder Nagar, joined the BJP. Apart from this, Aam Aadmi Party’s social media coordinator Rita Vashisht also joined the BJP.

Apart from all these, many Congress leaders also joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.  Satish Lohia, who contested the assembly elections on a Congress ticket from Delhi’s Chhatarpur assembly seat in 2020, has also joined the BJP. Vijay Malhotra, who was also the secretary of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, has also joined the BJP. Several Congress leaders, including former spokespersons Rajiv Gambhir and GVS Chauhan, have switched sides ahead of the elections.

“I have seen for the last 15-20 days that many AAP and Congress leaders are reposing faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I am confident that the BJP  will get more than 70 percent votes in the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi.”

After the seat-sharing announcement between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress in Delhi, the chessboard of the Lok Sabha elections has started. In Delhi, AAP will contest on four seats while Congress will contest on three seats. The Aam Aadmi Party will field candidates in four seats New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi, and East Delhi, while the Congress will contest North East Delhi, North West Delhi, and Chandni Chowk seats.

It is believed that with the coming together of the AAP-Congress, the electoral contest in Delhi will become bipolar.  Which leaders can AAP give a chance, what are the speculations being made?

They may get a chance from South Delhi seat: Sources said the South Delhi Lok Sabha seat will be contested by AAP and its Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar is a possible candidate from here. The seat was won for the second time in 2019 by  BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri defeating AAP’s Raghav Chadha by over 3.65 lakh votes.

Shiv Charan Goel’s name was also discussed: The Aam Aadmi Party will also contest the East Delhi and New Delhi seats. Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir won the  East Delhi seat on a BJP ticket in 2019. He defeated incumbent Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely by over 3.9 lakh votes. Sources said the AAP is considering fielding its MLA from Moti Nagar, Shiv Charan Goel, from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat.

The reputation of these giants at stake

Interestingly, the AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister is an MLA from the New Delhi Assembly constituency. Two other ministers in the AAP government, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Raj Kumar Anand, also have their constituencies in the New Delhi parliamentary constituency. In 2019, Congress’ incumbent treasurer Ajay Maken was defeated by BJP candidate Meenakshi Lekhi by over 2.5 lakh votes.

Who can be given a chance from the Delhi Lok Sabha seat?

The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, which are part of the India alliance, have reached an agreement on the Lok Sabha seats. The leaders of the two parties jointly announced this on Saturday. The Aam Aadmi Party will contest New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi, and East Delhi Lok Sabha seats, while the Congress will field its candidates from North-West, Chandni Chowk, and North East Delhi.

Lovely can be given a chance: Sources said the Congress is likely to field its Delhi unit chief Arvind Singh Lovely from the North East Delhi seat,  which has the highest percentage of Muslim population (over 29 percent) among all parliamentary segments in the city.

Congress may also give the ticket to Kanhaiya Kumar: Youth Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar’s name is also doing the rounds as a possible candidate from the northeast Delhi seat, which is dominated by Purvanchali voters. The northeast Delhi region was rocked by riots in 2020.

Udit Raj’s name is also in discussion: Udit  Raj, who had won from North West Delhi on a BJP ticket in 2014, is likely to be the Congress candidate from the same constituency this time, party sources said.  After being denied a ticket in the 2019 elections, he left the BJP and joined the Congress.

Mahabal Mishra may get a chance: Congress sources said the AAP may field former West Delhi MP Mahabal Mishra from the same constituency this time.  In 2019,  Congress candidate Mahabal Mishra was defeated by BJP’s Parvesh Verma, son of former chief minister Sahib Singh Verma,   by a huge margin of over 5.8 lakh votes.

Chances from Chandni Chowk seat: The Congress will also contest from the Chandni Chowk constituency. Senior Congress leader JP Agarwal, who has been an MP from this constituency in the past, is being considered as a key probable this time. Sources claimed that Mahila Congress chief Alka Lamba could also be considered by the Congress. Alka Lamba had earlier represented the Chandni Chowk assembly seat as an AAP leader.

West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency: Mahabal Mishra is a strong contender for the Aam Aadmi Party on this seat. Mahabal Mishra has also been a former Congress MP from this seat. His son Vinay Mishra is also an AAP MLA from the Dwarka assembly seat of this Lok Sabha. In the MCD elections too, the father-son duo has achieved better results for the Aam Aadmi Party. Mahabal Mishra has remained in good touch with Congress leaders even after leaving the Congress.

New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency: The New Delhi seat is the assembly seat of Delhi’s CM Arvind Kejriwal. One of the names that is being discussed prominently in this seat is that of Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti. Somnath Bharti has been successful in winning the Malviya Nagar assembly seat for three consecutive times since  2013. Somnath Bharti has also been a cabinet minister in the Kejriwal government and also has a strong hold on his Malviya Nagar assembly.

Apart from these, Shiv Charan Goel, MLA from Moti Nagar Assembly, is also claiming his claim for the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat. Shiv Charan has been elected MLA from the area twice in the years 2015 and 2020. In the MCD elections too,

Goel has won all the wards in the area. Goel is also considered a confidant of former MP Sushil Gupta and MP N.D. Gupta. The special thing is that Shiv Charan’s image is that of an honest leader and he is also considered close to AAP convenor Kejriwal. Another name that is doing the rounds in this seat is AAP’s first Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi. Style Party She has also become a big female face.

South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency: According to sources,   the name of two-time MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar from Chhatarpur seat is leading in this seat. Apart from this,  the name of two-time MLA Sahiram Pehalwan from the Tughlakabad Assembly since 2015  is also in discussion on the AAP ticket.

East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency: AAP  is discussing many names in the East Delhi seat. The most prominent name in this is the name of senior party leader and current cabinet minister Gopal Rai, who has been associated with the party since the movement. Apart from this, the names of Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar, former MLA Nitin Tyagi from Laxmi Nagar, and co-incharge in MCD Deepak Singla are also in discussion.

We Will defeat the BJP in all seven seats: Lovely

Congress state president Arvinder Singh Lovely targeted the BJP after the agreement with the Aam Aadmi Party for seats in the Lok Sabha elections. He said the India alliance is ready to defeat the BJP on all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. Congress workers will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the India alliance wins all the seats. Lovely welcomed the alliance and said that workers of both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party will ensure that the India alliance wins.

Apart from Delhi, Haryana will also be discussed in the PAC  meeting of the Aam Aadmi Party. In fact, AAP will field its candidate on only one seat Kurukshetra from Haryana, and will support Congress candidates in all the remaining seats. In Gujarat, AAP  has got two seats in Bharuch and Bhavnagar. While the remaining seats are in the account of Congress. AAP in GujaratThe party has already announced its candidates. Chaitra Basava from Bharuch and Umesh Bhai Makhwana from Bhavnagar will contest the elections.

Campaign strategy will be brainstormed

Despite a heavy defeat in all seven seats in Delhi in the 2019  Lok Sabha elections, the Congress was in second place in six seats, while the AAP was in third place. AAP’s Raghav Chadha was the only candidate from South Delhi who stood second. Besides, three AAP candidates — Pankaj Gupta from Chandni Chowk, Brijesh Goel from New Delhi, and Dilip Pandey from Northeast Delhi  — lost their deposits in 2019. AAP general secretary (organization) Sandeep Pathak said the two sides will meet later to discuss the campaign strategy for the polls.

Also eyeing AAP-Congress alliance

The BJP, which has won all the seven Lok Sabha seats in two consecutive Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, has a different challenge this time. For the first time, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress have entered into a pre-poll alliance in Delhi. This time both parties are going to fight together with the BJP. In such a situation, the BJP has become more cautious about the selection of candidates. The party will also keep an eye on who is being fielded by the opposition alliance in the election.

BJP may give tickets to these 3  leaders in Delhi, names in first list

The buzz of Lok Sabha elections has intensified. While the Election Commission can announce the dates in the first week of March, on the other hand, the parties have almost finalized the list of candidates. Some parties have even announced candidates for many seats.  After the meeting of the Central Election Committee on February 29, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can also announce the names of candidates for more than 150 seats. It is being told that the names of many veterans including PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh can be in this list.

The BJP has finalized its candidates, including three seats in Delhi. The BJP is going to field sitting MPs in these three seats. Bhojpuri singer and Purvanchal’s big face Manoj Tiwari will be fielded from North-East Delhi while Parvesh Verma is set to contest once again from West Delhi. At the same time, the party has once again expressed confidence in Ramesh Bidhuri. Bidhuri can be contested from the South Delhi seat. It is being told that the names of 3 out of seven seats in Delhi have almost been decided and now they are yet to be approved by the Central Election Committee.

In the second list, the BJP will announce candidates for the other four seats. It is not clear whether the BJP will bring back the old faces in all the seats or may make some changes. The party has conducted an internal survey on all the seats before the selection of candidates and the names of candidates are being finalized based on its results. Apart from Manoj Tiwari, Parvesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri, sitting MPs from Delhi are Meenakshi Lekhi (New Delhi), and Harsh Vardhan (Chandni Chowk).
