What is the equation for the Pilot examination in Rajasthan’s Tonk assembly seat?

Rajasthan Tonk Assembly Seat: Sachin Pilot, who is contesting from Tonk seat in Rajasthan elections, has a tough test. The Congress is hoping for a victory based on Pilot’s deep penetration among the people.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, who is contesting from the Tonk assembly seat in the Rajasthan assembly elections, is going to face a tough test. The Congress is hoping for a victory on the back of Sachin Pilot’s stature as a national-level leader and his deep penetration into the influential communities of the region. On the other hand, the BJP has raised the issue of Hindutva vocally. The BJP is also making an issue of local versus outsider. Ajit Singh Mehta, the BJP candidate from Tonk, has been vociferously raising the issue of local versus outsider.

The local versus the external Bihari battle

BJP candidate Ajit Singh Mehta claims that Sachin Pilot will not get the benefit of being the chief ministerial face this time, which he got in  2018. I am a resident of Tonk and know the problems of the people. The pilot is an outsider. Last time, he had taken advantage of being the ‘chief ministerial face’.

The Mood of Voters Saying?

At the same time, pilot-backed voters seem unfazed by not being made the chief minister and not being declared the chief ministerial face. Mohammad Rizwan Ali, who works as a tailor in Tonk main market, says Pilot will become the chief minister. He is the future. In this election, people are talking about Tonk because Pilot is contesting from here.

Pilot confident of victory

Pilot exuded confidence in winning the seat again with a good margin and said he would get a good mandate like last time. I think the people of Tonk have supported me in the last election. In these five years, we were able to make developments that did not happen in this area. So, I am confident that the Congress will get a good mandate like last time,” he said. The work we have done shows that we have been able to take everyone together.

BJP trying to unite Gujjar and Hindu votes

The BJP is working to unite Hindu votes apart from Gujjars. The BJP has given the responsibility of election in Tonk to party MP Ramesh Bidhuri. Bidhuri had recently said that Lahore was keeping an eye on the elections in Rajasthan and Tonk. Bidhuri, while addressing a meeting of youth activists organised by Mehta, had said it has to be seen whether the laddus will be distributed in the country after the elections on The 25th or in Lahore.  The enemy sitting outside the country is eyeing this election.

The issue of local versus external โ€˜Bihariโ€™ is effective.

In Tonk, Pilot had defeated his BJP rival Yunus Khan by a record margin of over  54,000  votes in  2018.  BJP supporters and voters argue that last time they too did not support the party candidate Khan, but this time since a local person is contesting, they will support him.

BSP candidate supported Pilot

Tonk has a sizeable population of Muslims and Gujjars. Several Muslim rebels from the Congress had filed their nominations against Pilot but later withdrew. BSP candidate from Tonk, Ashok Bairwa, has also supported Pilot.  Bairwa said he would campaign for Pilot

The election picture is not clear.

Discussing the electoral scenario at a tea stall in this market of the city, a local citizen named Sanjay Dixit said, “Last time it was different, this time there is a local candidate. BJP supporters are supporting him. It is easy to contact them while it takes a long way to reach Pilot Sahib. Kailash Bhagwani, a doctor by profession, says that the electoral picture is not clear. Pilot sahab can win but with a small margin.
