The BJP has high hopes from eastern Rajasthan in the assembly elections.  In  2018, the party got a bad situation here. The PM has mentioned the injustice done to Rajesh Paylay and his son Sachin by the Congress.

In Rajasthan, polling is underway for assembly elections today. In such a situation, all parties have a lot of expectations from the voters. Both the Congress and the BJP had fielded their veteran leaders in the election campaign. PM Modi had held massive rallies. In some rallies, he had referred to the “injustice”  meted out to Gujjar community leaders, late Rajesh Pilot and his son Sachin Pilot, by the Congress leadership. PM Modi’s reference to Rajesh Pilot comes at a time when the party is hoping for a decisive gain in Gujjar-dominated eastern Rajasthan.  In fact, in the 2018 assembly elections, the party was badly defeated here.

The BJP lost all the  32 Gujjar-dominated seats in Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Alwar, Bharatpur and Karauli districts of eastern Rajasthan  , while the BJP had captured the Mewar-Marwar region in 2018  . The BJP also hopes for a favourable reorganisation of the Gujjar-Meena communities, which have a long history of violence over the quota issue. The Gujjar community, which is settled with its MBC category, has rejected the demand for inclusion of the Meena community  (tribal) in the ST list, which is the bone of contention.

The  Gujjar community, which has more than 5 per cent voters in the state, is spread across eastern Rajasthan and parts of Shekhawati, Jaipur Rural and Mewar-Marwar regions. Attacking the Congress at Jahajpur in Bhilwara on Wednesday, Modi said, “In Congress, whoever collides with one family is destroyed forever. Congress has a history.  In Congress, if someone speaks the truth, which causes even the slightest inconvenience or pain to the family, that leader goes to hell. Whoever said something in front of this family in Congress has suffered badly. ‘

“Rajesh Pilot ji once challenged the family for the betterment of the Congress but they failed and they had to suffer losses. This family is one that has not only punished Rajesh ji, but they  are also engaged in punishing his son (Sachin Pilot).   Be it the raids or summons on CM Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav or the reference to Rajesh Pilot, Sachin came out openly in honor of the Congress and rejected the allegations made by the PM.

However, this is not very old when Sachin was booked for sedition. In 2020, he rebelled against the Gehlot government. Rajesh Pilot had faced the wrath of the Congress leadership after he challenged Sonia Gandhi’s power in  1999. In 2018, Sachin as state party chief was at the forefront of the Congress campaign and his community saw him as CM-in-waiting. The community had voted in favour of the Congress in the hope of their leader becoming the chief minister.
