Sonia Gandhi said, “Some important bills related to Jammu and Kashmir have been passed in this session. There are continuous campaigns by those who distort history and distort historical facts to defame great patriots like Jawaharlal Nehru. “

Parliament Winter Session 2023: Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the government over the suspension of  141  opposition members from Parliament. “This government is stifling democracy,” Gandhi alleged.  The former Congress president also claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke outside Parliament on the “unforgivable incident”  of the breach in Parliament’s security, which clearly showed that he did not care about the dignity of the House. Sonia Gandhi said at the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting, “Democracy is being stifled by this government. Never before have so many opposition MPs been suspended from the House,  and that too only for raising a perfectly reasonable and legitimate demand. “

She said opposition members of Parliament had demanded a statement from the Home Minister in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the December 13 extraordinary incident. According to the former Congress president,  she has no words to describe the arrogant behavior shown by the government in response to the opposition’s demand. Referring to the security lapse in Parliament, she said what happened on December  13 was unpardonable and cannot be justified.

“It took the Prime Minister four days to express his views on the incident and he did it outside Parliament. By doing so, he clearly indicated his disregard for the dignity of the House and his disregard for the people of our country. I leave it to you to imagine how the  BJP would have reacted if it was in the opposition today. “

Sonia Gandhi also said, “Some important bills related to Jammu and Kashmir have been passed in this session. There are continuous campaigns by those who distort history and historical facts to defame great patriots like Jawaharlal Nehru. “

Gandhi said that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister have themselves taken the lead in these efforts, but we will not be afraid or bow down. We will continue to speak the truth. “Our position on Jammu and Kashmir is clear and consistent that full statehood should be restored immediately and elections should be held at the earliest. The aspirations of the people of Ladakh are equally important, they should be fulfilled and shown the respect they deserve. “
