India-Maldives Controversy: How can Maldives forget India’s favors, when India extended a helping hand.

In 2020, when the crisis of the Corona epidemic was covered all over the world,  the Government of India sent medical teams there to deal with the situation and also conducted a vaccination campaign.   • Maria Ahmed Didi: Former Maldivian Defense Minister Maria Ahmed Didi has expressed displeasure over all the rhetoric, calling India the country’s  ‘911 call’ after this India-Maldives controversy. He said that this shows the short-sightedness of the Maldivian government. Describing India as a reliable partner, Maria Ahmed Didi said that whenever Maldives needed help in various sectors including defense, India has always been supportive.
    • “We are a small country and have friendship with everyone, but we cannot deny that we share a border with India. Our defence concerns are common and India has always helped us. By helping in different sectors, they have tried to make us self-sufficient.”
  • Fayaz Ismail: Maldivian Democratic Party chief Fayaz Ismail has appealed to the Mohamed Muizzu government to take strict action in this India-Maldives Controversy. He said that this objectionable statement is the personal opinion of those people and they feel that the government should take a strong stand in this India-Maldives Controversy.
    • Fayaz Ismail said that due to social media, the India-Maldives Controversy has spread to Indians and Maldivians. It is no longer just a matter between governments.
    • He said that as the debate on the matter increases, the India-Maldives controversy will increase, so the government should clarify that it is not their view, what has been said is the personal opinion of those who unfortunately got positions in the government. He stressed that it needs to be cleaned before the people of Indians, the people of Maldives, and the whole world.
    • The Maldives’ reputation is being tarnished due to the remarks made against PM Modi as per the India-Maldives controversy. The Maldives government should tell the whole world including India that these were the views of the leaders who made controversial remarks against PM Modi.   • Musa Conscience: In the Mohammad Muizzu government, Foreign Minister Musa Zamir has also come in support of India and PM Modi in this India-Maldives controversy. He said that the objectionable remarks made about our neighboring country are unacceptable and the Maldives government does not believe what was said. “We are committed to constructive dialogue with all, particularly with our neighbors, based on mutual respect and understanding,” he said.
  • Abdullah Shahid: Former Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid also opposed the objectionable remarks on PM Modi and said that such people should take care of the decorum because people know them. He is not a social media activist. “Public figures should respect their dignity and remember that they are not social media activists. They have the responsibility to protect the interest of the country,” he said.
  • Opposition leader Mikail Ahmed Naseem: Parliament proceedings in the Maldives are currently suspended. However, Mikail Ahmed Naseem says that a special session of Parliament should be called on this India-Maldives Controversy.  “The gravity of the situation requires that the government issue a formal apology and dismiss the ministers concerned immediately.

“India is a time-tested and unwavering partner. In every difficulty, he is among the first to come forward to help. Our relationship is about respect, history, culture, and strong people-to-people ties,”

Maldives leader’s spoiled words

Maldivian Deputy Minister of Information and Arts Mariam Shiuna made derogatory remarks against India and used terms like ‘CLOWN’ and ‘PUPPET OF ISRAEL’  for India after this India-Maldives Controversy. Apart from this, Zahid Ramiz, a member of the Progressive Party of Maldives, took a dig at India’s Lakshadweep, saying,  “India wants to compete with us.” How will they be able to give as much arrangement as we have? How will they be able to maintain so much cleanliness?

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday amid a diplomatic row with China, after the India-Maldives Controversy. The two countries signed 20 important agreements,  including on tourism cooperation. The two countries also announced elevating their bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Muizzu feels proud of China visit

As soon as Muizzu reached China, he started praising the dragon country. He said that he feels good that he is the first foreign head of state to visit China this year. He said it shows the importance both sides attach to bilateral relations. Xi stressed that China supports the Maldives in developing according to national conditions, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. China supports Maldives in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and national dignity, he said.

Belt and Road also included in the agreement

“Twenty important agreements were signed between the governments of Maldives and China this afternoon and both presidents were present on the occasion,” the Maldivian president’s office said in a post on social media platform X. The agreements include tourism cooperation, disaster risk reduction, strengthening investment in the blue economy, digital economy and the Belt and Road Initiative.

China has also agreed to provide grant assistance to the Maldives but the money has not been disclosed. Muizzu and his wife Sajida Mohammed were warmly welcomed in Beijing. President Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan hosted a state banquet in his honor.

Muizzu Considered as a pro-China leader

Muizzu is considered a pro-China leader. Recently, some ministers of Maldives had made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Modi. After that, a large number of Indian tourists canceled their trip to Maldives. Maldives is an island nation dependent on tourism.

China is selectively pitting Muslim countries against India 

Before the Maldives, countries like Pakistan and Malaysia also follow the instructions of China.  China fears that India’s global influence will be much more than that, in such a situation, China wants to spoil the relations of Muslim countries around the world with India and wants to become a benefactor of Muslims itself.  But the whole world knows how Muslims are treated in China.

Uyghur Muslims are tortured in China

The United Nations has told in its report how Uygar Muslims are tortured in China. In the report, China has been claimed to have ‘serious violations’  of human rights. However, China has often rejected these allegations. According to a July 2023  report by the United Nations, Uyghur Muslims are badly persecuted in China’s Xinjiang province. Uyghur Muslims are arbitrarily detained there, under forced labor.

Muslim women are brutalized

According to the report, Muslim women have been forcibly raped. They are also forced to have oral sex and take off their clothes. At the same time, men were forcibly sterilized in the name of family planning. It has also been alleged that after  2017, China destroyed more than  16 thousand mosques in Xinjiang. But at this time, instead of looking into its fall, China is provoking against India by becoming a benefactor of Muslim countries.

In the year 2019, Malaysia said to the United Nations that India had forcibly occupied Kashmir illegally. On which India reacted sharply. After the reaction from Malaysia, India had taken several tough steps, which started many difficulties between the two countries in the field of bilateral trade and commerce.

The whole world knows that China has a hand in any Pakistani activity against India. Many of Dragon’s projects are going on in Pakistan. According to the report,  China has put a debt burden of $ 62  billion it in the name of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. How can the Maldives forget India’s favors, after the India-Maldives Controversy?

  • Operation Cactus: In 1988, India did such a favor to the Maldivian government, which the neighboring country should never forget. It happened that on November  3, intruders attacked Maldives’ capital, Male. Then there was a plan to oust the then-President of Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayoom from power. The situation worsened so much that Gayoom had to hide in a safe house. Then Ghayoom sought help from many countries but he did not get help from anywhere. In such a situation, India extended a hand to help the Maldives.

At that time, the then Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, decided to help the Maldives. In such a situation, a special contingent of the Indian Army was sent to the Maldives. After which 150  commandos of  6 Para of India took the front on the spot and controlled the situation. In such a situation, the government of Maldives survived the fall.

  • Operation Sea Waves: In late  2004, there was an undersea earthquake, which destroyed the shores of the Maldives. At this time too, India came forward to help the Maldives and launched ‘Operation Sea Waves’. Then all kinds of relief material from India were sent to Maldives. People were rescued with the help of helicopters. Not only this, India gave financial assistance of Rs 10  crore to the Maldives, which was struggling with money constraints.  Even after this, India helped crores of rupees.
  • Operation Neer: On December 4,  2014, the RO plant in Maldives’ capital Male broke down and there was a crisis of drinking water. There was a cry for water drop by drop in the whole city. The entire city needed  100 tonnes of water per day until the plant was restarted. Then the Maldives sought help from the Government of India. After which India launched ‘Operation Neer’  and sent packed water from Delhi to Arakkonam and from there to Male. The Army airlifted 374 tonnes of drinking water between September 5 and 7.
  • India supported Corona: During Corona in the year 2020, when people’s loved ones left together. Even then India had extended a helping hand to the Maldives and sent a large medical team. Not only this, India then worked to deliver the vaccine to the Maldives.
